El presidente y CEO de la MPA, Charles Rivkin, ha recibido la más alta condecoración policial española que puede concederse a un civil, en honor a los esfuerzos de la MPA en combatir la piratería digital.
MADRID – El presidente y CEO de la Motion Pictures Association (MPA), Charles Rivkin, ha recibido hoy de manos del director general de la Policía Nacional, Francisco Pardo Piqueras, la Cruz al mérito policial con distintivo blanco. Rivkin ha sido distinguido con esta condecoración policial, la más alta que puede otorgarse a un civil, por la importante labor de la MPA y de la Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE) en la lucha contra la piratería digital y en la protección de los derechos de propiedad intelectual.
Con el refuerzo de las operaciones de protección de contenidos de la MPA, la ACE es la principal coalición antipiratería online del mundo, dedicada a proteger la creatividad y la innovación que impulsan el crecimiento de las principales industrias de derechos de autor y entretenimiento.
“Estamos profundamente agradecidos al director general por su liderazgo y a la Policía Nacional española, por su compromiso y colaboración en la lucha para reducir la piratería”, ha dicho Rivkin, que también es presidente de la ACE. “Juntos hemos reunido un equipo extraordinario para abordar y reducir este importante asunto, que sigue siendo una amenaza para la comunidad audiovisual mundial, perjudicando a las películas y a las empresas locales y extranjeras, amenazando los puestos de trabajo, socavando la inversión y ahogando la creatividad”.
La MPA y la ACE han colaborado desde hace varios años con la Policía Nacional española para llevar a cabo, con éxito, importantes operaciones en España y en todo el mundo.
Entre las operaciones más recientes, destaca una actuación del pasado marzo de 2020, que se llevó a cabo en coordinación con ACE, que desmanteló una infraestructura de emisión ilegal de contenidos audiovisuales que contaba con más de 100.000.000 descargas, a través de la aplicación ‘Mobdro’. Según la Policía, de haber continuado la operación, se habría producido un lucro ilícito superior a los 15 millones de euros. Asimismo, en junio de 2020, ACE colaboró con la Policía Nacional, la EUROPOL y EUROJUST en una operación sin precedentes que desarticuló un entramado especializado en distribución ilegal de contenidos audiovisuales. La red ilícita daba servicio a más de dos millones de usuarios en todo el mundo.
La piratería de contenidos en línea perjudica a las películas y empresas locales y extranjeras, amenaza los puestos de trabajo, socava la inversión, reduce las contribuciones fiscales a los gobiernos y ahoga la creatividad.
“Cuando se detienen a individuos o se retiran sitios ilegales, no sólo frenamos la piratería, sino que protegemos los puestos de trabajo en España y en todo el mundo”, ha dicho Rivkin. “Al preservar esos puestos de trabajo, hacemos posible que se sigan haciendo las películas y los programas de televisión que nos gustan, y seguimos creando un entorno en el que los consumidores pueden disfrutar de su arte y su entretenimiento de forma segura y legal”.
Impulsada por un enfoque integral para hacer frente a la piratería, el conjunto de herramientas legales y operativas de ACE incluye remisiones penales, litigios y comunicaciones directas, entre otros métodos.

MPA Chairman and CEO Charles Rivkin Accepts Highest Law Enforcement Decoration Bestowed on a Civilian, Honoring the MPA’s Efforts to Combat Digital Piracy
MADRID – Motion Picture Association Chairman and CEO Charles Rivkin today accepted the Distinguished Cross of the Police Merit with Distinction from Francisco Pardo Piqueras, General Director of the Spanish National Police. Rivkin received the honor, which is the highest awarded by the Spanish National Police to a civilian, in recognition of the work the MPA and the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE) have done to fight piracy and protect intellectual property rights.
Reinforced by the content protection operations of the MPA, ACE is the world’s leading online anti-piracy coalition, dedicated to protecting the creativity and innovation that drive the growth of core copyright and entertainment industries.
“We are deeply grateful to the General Director for his leadership and to the Spanish National Police, for their commitment and partnership in the fight to reduce piracy,” said Rivkin, who also serves as Chairman of ACE. “Together we have assembled an extraordinary team to tackle this important issue, which continues to be a threat to the global audiovisual community, harming both local and foreign films and businesses, threatening jobs, undermining investment, and stifling creativity.”
The MPA and ACE have worked for several years with the Spanish National Police to successfully carry out significant operations in Spain and around the world.
Recent operations include an action in March 2020, carried out in coordination with ACE, which dismantled an illegal broadcasting infrastructure of audiovisual content that had more than 100,000,000 downloads, through the ‘Mobdro’ application. According to the Police, had the operation continued it would have produced an illicit profit of more than 15 million euros. In June 2020, ACE cooperated with the National Police, EUROPOL and EUROJUST in another unprecedented operation that dismantled a network that illegally distributed audiovisual content. The illicit network served more than two million users worldwide.
The theft of online content harms both local and foreign films and businesses, threatens jobs, undermines investment, reduces tax contributions to governments, and stifles creativity.
“When we arrest individuals or take down illegal sites, we don’t just curb piracy, we protect jobs in Spain and around the world,” Rivkin said. “By preserving those jobs, we make it possible to keep making the movies and television shows that we love, and we continue to create an environment where consumers can enjoy their art and their entertainment in safe and legal ways.”
With its “all-of-the-above” approach to reducing piracy, ACE’s legal and operational toolkit includes criminal referrals, litigation, and direct communications among other tactics.
