Piracy observatory 2020
There has never been such a presence, links, and dissemination of works, ingenuity, and entertainment. But there has also never been such a violent attack on the legitimacy of intellectual and industrial property rights and their holders. We have a challenge: to adjust and adapt businesses related to the cultural industry to a new reality, to the unstoppable path towards the global digital society.
Why is intellectual property so important?
Throughout history, products created by human imagination have played a vital role in shaping the world we live in. Works of art, culture, and entertainment have not only enriched our lives but have also led us to the economic and technological development, which has been key for the progress of our country and the entire world.
To protect all this creativity, it is essential, now more than ever, to have a legal framework that encourages creators to continue generating works. While technology is revolutionising how consumers interact with creative content, providing new opportunities for all of us, Spain must continue to ensure that there are appropriate conditions for professional and high-quality works to flourish.
Protecting copyright means providing the right incentives to ensure that everyone has access to content across multiple platforms and that those who create content can continue to do so.
Safeguarding intellectual property also means supporting technological ingenuity that ultimately benefits us all.
